He was a politician, M.P. for Hereforshire and Radnorshire, and held the offices of Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary. He was very interested in Linguistics and is also the author of Remarks on the Use and Abuse of Some Political Terms (1832) and of Essay on the Origin and Formation of the Romance Languages (1835). He was the editor of the Edinburgh Review. He wrote books and articles on political and historical topics, on Greek literature , etc.”
