DING 2021: "Born at Rippon, Yks., he attended St. Agnesgate Grammar School. He became interested in the folklore and dialect of his native county from an early age. He would become a member of the Folklore Society, the Ripon Archeological and Scientific Societies, and of the Yorkshire Dialect Society. He was a close friend of Rev. John Christopher Atkinson (1814-1900), another prominent Yorkshire dialectologist.
He not only relied on published sources but also carried out his own fieldwork. He compiled collections of Yks. dialect literature he used for his public and private dialect readings. He himself produced poems and tales he would published in books, pamphlets and newspaper articles. He wrote several plays. Some of his works were posthumously published by his son John Fairfax-Blakeborough (1883-1976).
