DING 2012: " Known as the Peakland Poet, he was born at Eyam, Db. He spent most of his life at Dore, Db., where he was schoolmaster and registrar, as well as surgeon. In Medicus Magus (1836) he included a glossary of Derbyshire dialect. ”The Cat and the Vicar” was probably written ca 1822, taking into account the information in Holland (1858: 38). It is the only other poem written by Furness in which dialect is used.”
