DING 2015: "Born in Sheffield, he was a carver and forger of knife blades. He played the organ and the violin and was a bass singer. He was scenic artist and assistant manager at the Theatre Royal in Sheffield. He once owned a boxing saloon and taught pugilism. For some time he lived in Bradwell where he kept a pub called "Shoulder of Mutton". Wadsley Jack was originally published in the Sheffield Daily Telegraph in 1865".
