DING 2015: “It seems that Bentley's remarks on the dialect of Halifax, as well as his short collection of words characteristic to the area, were reproduced from Rev. John Watson's The History and Antiquities of the parish of Halifax, in Yorkshire (1775), which Joseph Wright used for the EDD, and Joseph Hunter (1783-1861) for his Hallamshire Glossary of 1825. Bentley did not acknowledge Watson as a source. See further the SC entry for Rev. John Watson (1725-1783).
