DING 2012: “Born in Durham, he attended Sunderland Grange School and later studied at the University of Glasgow. He later graduated BA from Trinity College, Cambridge. He was called to the Bar in 1846. Until 1850 he made the Northern Circuit. Prolific Victorian playwright, he represented the Lancashire dialect in Arckwright’s Wife, first performed in Leeds on July the 7th, 1873”.
