DING 2012: "Born in Doncaster, he lived in Colchester and Bath before emigrating to Australia where he remained for five years. He returned to England in 1858. He lived in Edinburgh and Glasgow, working for The Scotsman and The British Daily Mail. He moved to London and continued writing for The Scotsman as well as for Fraser's Magazine, Argosy, Chamber's Journal, Cassell's Magazine, Good Words and Australian periodicals. He wrote boy novels, poems and collections of articles. “The Buckinghamshire Labourer” first appeared anonymously in Good Words (July 1869) and was later posthumously included in the collection How Our Working People Live (1882).”
