DING 2015: "Born at Bradshawgate, in Bolton, Lan., he was a pupil at Chetcham Hospital, as servant to the House Governor. He became a printer in Bolton, with his own printing business, and published and edited several dialect newspapers (The Bowtun Loominary, Tumfowt Telegraph and Lankishire Lookin-Glass). Between 1863 and 1867 he acted as editor for John Heywood's The Lancashire Luminary in Manchester. Upon his return to Bolton, together with the Tillotson family, he started The Bolton Evening News , of which he was sub-editor, and the Farnworth Journal, for which he was editor. He was a prolific writer of dialect short stories, plays and dialogues, many published by Heywood. Prince Louis-Lucien Bonaparte relied on him for the Lancashire version of The Song of Solomon. In it, Staton included a preface with some information about the Bolton dialect."
